It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of one of GWK Irrigation’s stalwarts, Piet van der Post (52). Piet leaves behind his wife, Brenda, and their four children.
Piet passed away on Monday, 2 October, after losing his battle against brain cancer. Piet left a considerablemark in Douglas and has worked at GWK for 24 years. His career began in 1999 as a general worker at the Douglas retail store. He was involved with retail for 16 years and held various positions. In 2015, he started at GWK Irrigation and had to assist in running the new business. Piet undoubtedly contributed to the success of this business.
Johan Greyling (GWK Retail branch manager: Douglas) describes Piet as a remarkable employee. “We often visited Piet at the hospital and his home and you could feel the love for him. He was a stalwart and always helpful – GWK will miss him.”
Jingles Louw (former colleague) says he was a loving and helpful person. “He was always willing to help and called every woman Hartjie.”
Isaac Pretorius has worked with Piet for the past eight years. “He always motivated his colleagues and had a great sense of humour. His relationship with the Lord was also important to him.”
Piet was also busy with his Pastoral studies and the ministry was his long-term plan. Our prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. We honour your legacy, Piet, it was a privilege to know you. Rest in peace.
Johan Greyling
